Announcing F This Movie Fest 4!

An event 65 million 4 years in the making!

On February 7th, F This Movie! is hosting our fourth annual F This Movie Fest -- the world's only all-Twitter film festival. This year, we celebrate the movies of 1993!

If you're new to the site, here's the deal:
1. Secure copies of all five movies! (DVD/Blu-ray, Amazon Instant Video, iTunes rentals, public libraries, etc.)
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter (@fthismovie). If you're not already on Twitter, you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want.
3. Don't quit. Keep following us on Twitter.
4. Beginning at Noon on Saturday, February 7th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest). It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
5. We are not making fun of these movies. We love these movies.
6. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone.

Here's the lineup (all times CST):
Noon
(Dir. Marco Brambilla/115 min.)

2:15 p.m.
(Dir. Sam Raimi/81 min. [Theaterical Cut])

4 p.m.
(Dir. John Woo/97 min.)

6 p.m.
(Dir. Tony Scott/118 min.)
(Read the Movies I Love column on True Romance)

8:30 p.m.
(Dir. Steven Spielberg/127 min.)
Read Adam Riske's Jurassic Park: 20 Years Later)

All times are approximate; we'll sync up the exact start time on Twitter the day of the fest.

Ask anyone who has participated in the past -- this is one of the best things we do here at F This Movie! and has been a complete blast the last three years. Last year we had the screenwriter of Explorers with us, as well as Steven E. DeSouza, Claudia Wells and filmmaker Lucky McKee (a favorite here at FTM)! You never know WHO is going to show up!

We all want this year's to be the biggest and best yet, so we'd love as many people to join us as possible. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell My Girlfriend Zöe Bell.

We're just a few weeks away! Enhance your calm! Hail to the King! How does it feel to be hunted? You're so cool! DI-NO-SAWERS!!!

  1. Woo! Two movies I've never seen in Demolition Man and Hard Target, and the other three I already own. I try and fail to do this every year, but maybe this will be the year!

    1. And I haven't really sat down to watch Jurassic Park in a few years. I don't know what I have been doing with my life.

    2. You're in for a treat with both of those.

    3. Exactly the same scenario for me. Plus I've been wanting to get "Demolition Man" and "Hard Target" anyway so I can listen to other podcasts that have talked about them (Film Sack, How Did This Get Made?, etc.) so it's a win-win all around. :-)

    4. Hard Target is Woo's only good American film, IMO, of course.

    5. I still find Face/Off fun, but if Hard Target is better, then I'm all for it.

  2. Holy Psychic Moment, Batman! When I commented "Hold on to your butts" under the teaser post I had no idea we were going to The Park for the Fest itself! (Though when I wrote it I thought it would be funny if that was in the lineup - cue X-Files Theme).

The only one I need to track down is Hard Target which I should already own for chrissake and I'm overdue to watch all of these - great lineup! My personal goal is to have a funny tweet for True Romance because I love that movie with all of my heart and my snark-tank will be running on empty.

  3. Holy crap. What a line up! Gimme some sugar baby

That's a fun set of movies. Hopefully between us all we can work out how to use the 3 Sea shells....

  4. Damn nice lineup! Only one I've not seen (Hard Target, which I hope is as bonkers as Commando last year).

  5. I don't have a Twitter account but I'm gonna get one just for this. I discovered the podcast a few weeks ago and have been catching up obsessively ever since. Also, I've only seen True Romance and Jurassic Park, so I'm excited to watch the others for the first time.

    1. Welcome Adam! Let us lot know what your handle is when you join. Fhead banter on twitter is the best. #FHeadBanter #BabyBanter

  6. Exciting! I can't wait to interact with everyone on Twitter. I'll have to do some homework beforehand as I am a goddamn millennial and have not seen any of these movies in their entirety.

  7. "We are not making fun of these movies. We love these movies."

Well... surely we can have SOME fun with them, right?

    1. I mean, if we can't poke fun at Snipe's hair in Demolition Man, I just don't know who we are anymore.

  8. Oo Yay!! Very excited. I was 3 in this year so I can't remember what films I was watching. Probably Wizard of Oz. And building video forts, bouncing around listening to soul as well as 'make potions'. Amazing selection of films, can't wait!

  9. Um...how did you gain access to my brain to pick those five movies?

  10. 1993! Ahhh, the Clinton Administration, I remember it well. Political references cannot fully express my excitement for this list of movies, hopefully tweets will be a more appropriate medium. I have to start thinking of some kind of drinking game now, because I plan to be completely hammering by the time those pelicans fly past Sam Neill's window (Spoilers!). I'll be impressed if we can make it through the duration of Demolition Man without making any tax evasion jokes, but a little disappointed. Challenge accepted! #fthismoviefest

  11. Nice line-up! Looking forward to actually being able to participate for once!

  12. Stoked! Army of Darkness and True Romance!

  13. Super Awesome and So So Cool!

The whole fest will be worth it for True Romance alone. Love that movie. In my job I am regularly trying to encourage people to take precautionary/preventative measures for their health and I always tell them "Its better to have a xxxxx and not need it, than to need a xxxx and not have it". they always agree. So cool.

  14. Holy crap, I love this line-up. Going to try to switch shifts at work.

    ReplyDelete
  15. While you're watching those, I will be doing these in this order:
    1. Schindler's List
    2. Philadelphia
    3. My Life
    4. Flesh and Bone
    5. Kill Myself

    ReplyDelete
  16. Full disclosure: I've never seen True Romance.

    1. Ive never seen Hard Target, but Ive seen The Hard Way many times.

    2. I've never seen Army of Darkness, but I have seen The Langoliers.

    3. My immediate reaction to finding out that someone has never seen my #3 favorite movie of all time is the same as finding out someone's never seen my #1 or #2...
Make them feel very welcome ("It's really a great movie") before removing any bit of pressure from the situation ("I'm not going to say you HAVE to see it, simply that if you did, you're all but guaranteed to enjoy yourself") which then leads into a confident recommendation ("You should check it out if you like things that are good") before bringing things into sharp focus with guilt and fear ("I could be misunderstanding the situation, but basically if you don't watch this movie, the terrorists win...also, it makes baby Jesus cry").

      Hope that helps.

    4. @Mark - I almost recommend watching TRUE ROMANCE before the fest. It is worth your full attention if you haven't seen it before :-)

      Delete
    5. I have to second Adam's almost recommendation, Mark - guess there might be a bit of fun in seeing it for the first time with a virtual crowd but it does certainly deserve your full attention.

Dammit, I'm so excited for anyone seeing this movie for the first time - I'm sure the deceptive (yet totally appropriate) title has caused a lot of people to pass on this gem. I know I was pretty skeptical 20 years ago (fuck me) when my Dad brought it home.

    6. Regardless, I think I will have to insist on Twitter silence during the Hopper-Walken conversation.

  17. Other than the a sense of Groundhog Day, this is a great lineup.

Only one I own here is Army of Darkness, but the only ones I haven't seen are Demoltion Man and Hard Target. True Romance and Jurassic Park are generally cheap at Target.

    I'm very excited for this!

    1. *absence of Groundhog Day

      Damn typos

    2. I LOVE Groundhog Day. It's one of the very best movies of that year (and of the '90s period). But it's not the kind of movie that would be fun to tweet through in this setting.

      Glad you're joining us!

  18. Four years ago I started a Twitter account for the sole purpose of following Charlie Sheen during his insane post-Two and a Half Men breakdown/win which involved a live webcam show and living in a three-way relationship with a model and a pornstar.

A few years later, I used said account to suggest several trivia categories for Doug Loves Movies. I followed a few people, had a few laughs, etc.

Now, for the first time ever, I think this account might have found its true purpose.

  19. Sweet, I can finally open my HD-DVD copy of Army of Darkness! Take that all you laser disc losers. My dead format is far superior to yours.

    1. Although if I remember correctly the transfer is awful, but I think I paid $2 for it. Worth every penny.

    2. I'm also watching "Army of Darkness" on HD-DVD. Toshiba 4 life! :-)

  20. Year of my birth in movies, here we come.

  21. Like the picks, though mine would have been Amos & Andrew, Beyond the Law, National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1, Super Mario Bros. and Sliver.

No but seriously. I'm way excited for my first #FThisMovieFest. Can't wait to watch some excellent movies from 8pm to 8am. I have a feeling I'll need a couple of Red Bulls.

    1. Damn you for reminding everyone about Amos & Andrew. And welcome aboard!

  22. Thank you, Mark Ahn, for sharing my #movieshame and admitting you've never seen True Romance either. I am so excited about this Fest! I'm already thinking of appropriate snacks....like John Hammond I too will be sparing no expense.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for being a safe place to share my #movieshame, guys; you're the best. I mean, I've never seen Gone with Wind, but I've seen Windtalkers, but I digress.

I will be queuing up True Romance this weekend, looks like. But I WON'T share what I think of it, until we tweet about it at the fest. So excited!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh my gosh. I get so few chances to watch Demolition Man with other people. My wife won't have any part of it. I can't wait. So excited!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fantastic! We love love Demolition Man, True Romance, Evil Dead trilogy and Van Damme. By the way, there is a great Wayne Knight interview on Nerdist, its a must listen. He has an amazing life history. We will be with you all on twitter and through our site in some version of a podcast episode on fauxpods.com! Great picks!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anybody have any hot leads on where one can pick up a copy of Hard Target? Van Damme and his hair are a must for this weekend. Look's like renting from Vudu is an option but will it sink up ok with everybody? The things I stress about.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I found my copy at my local library.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've been waiting and waiting and WAITING for someone else to ask this question, but no one has: Do you want the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness or the director's cut? The differences between the two are much more significant than they were in Terminator 2. (Fans are pretty much divided 50/50 on which version they prefer, so apologies if I am wormcan-opening.)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The theatrical cut. I was going to specify but thought maybe the running time covered that. I'll edit the above just so it's clearer. Thanks for making sure!

  29. This is a great lineup! but wouldn't make more sense to run run this through something like cytu.be so everyone's in sync and they can comment in one place?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Got Army of Darkness from the local library, borrowed Demolition Man and Hard Target from a friend, already own True Romance and Jurassic Park.

    I'm ready. Bring it on!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'M PSYCHED!!! This is my first FEST. I've never seen HARD TARGET but I bought it today (along with a fresh copy of of ARMY OF DARKNESS) They are lined up on my coffee table all ready to go!!!
