  1. Just started this podcast... it could be on my end, but I am experiencing some audio issues. I am not able to turn the volume up high enough. I can hear your voices, just very soft. Barely audible.

    1. Shows recorded with Skype regularly create audio problems. It's a huge bummer and something I'm trying to get worked out. Sorry for the inconsistency. I wish every show could sound the same. And good. Good would be good.

    4. It wasn't much of an issue. Started loud, and got quieter as time went by. I just had to turn up the volume, with the paranoia lurking in the back of my head that all of a sudden you would spike back up to high levels when my hands were occupied! (with what, I wonder??) Luckily, it didn't happen.

  5. That's my biggest problem with Walking Dead - how many more times can they set up shop somewhere only to have everything blow up in their faces then repeat the same process season after season. I still watch the show but it seems more and more like nothing happens. I do however like the aspect that nothing ever gets made right on that show. They have built up hope so many times, very specific things sometimes, only to have as dark a resolution as possible. That's the show basically saying they are all fucked. This leads me to a question. Do you think the spin off is completely a cash in to tide viewers over during the long break, or do you think there will be any hope to it not being the same show only set in a different area? I will say, I like the casting for it.

You also saved me yet again from watching a bad film that was on my radar. Thanks!

  6. I liked the director's cut of Daredevil. After watching the pilot for Daredevil I like what I see so far.

    1. It is funny timing as JP, Joseph Finn and I were discussing this the other day as a future write up! I really liked it last time I saw it quite a few years ago.

    2. The commentary track for Daredevil is rather entertaining too. The director calls out effects that didn't come out very well! As well as other things that changed production. It was just very frank about the compromises of making a big movie.

  7. Glad you guys brought up Honest Trailers and Cinemasins, they do seem to be the center of this really irritating internet culture of plot hole pointing. I like Screen Junkies and Honest Trailers, because they do seem to love the movies they're poking at, whereas Cinemasins comes across with a "we're better than this" attitude. It's something that is really inescapable on youtube. It all kind of started with Cracked (a site I really enjoy) doing fun little tongue-in-cheek articles about real world consequences about movies, and really spiraled out of controlled by people who took it far, far too seriously. It's gotten to the point where I have literally heard multiple people say "that movie sucks, have you seen the cinemasins video for it?" Which is my cue to literally walk away from that person.

    1. I like Honest Trailers and Screen Junkies quite a bit. Does anyone watch Movie Fights? I used to but got exhausted listening to people tell one another they are wrong for over an hour at a time. It makes me appreciate F This Movie! even more because we have civil disagreements instead of fights. Sorry, didn't mean to toot our own horn but we're really special and probably the best thing on the internet.

      Great podcast btw P & H!

    2. Thanks, Adam, and hooray to us! What drew me to this community in the first place was the general willingness to try to understand opposing viewpoints. As the Beatles sang, All You Need Is Love. And LSD.

    3. I've seen a few Movie Fights episodes, but I quickly became annoyed with what terrible taste in movies most of them seem to have had. I don't expect any of them to have a vast knowledge of cinema (especially when they mostly cater to a "geek" audience), but when I hear multiple refer to Independence Day as "one of the greatest movies of all time"....we probably don't see eye-to-eye.

    4. Arguing over a movie quickly becomes annoying, disagreeing about a movie and talking about it to find out why you got different reactions is really interesting ;)

    5. I agree this podcast and community is always going to be set apart from me due to the nature in which we can talk to each other here as well as hear great discussions without aggression. It makes me believe in humanity. So don't worry about the TV thing Patrick. This show will always be the best. Even if you sat around talking qbout the history of the clover I would probably think it was funny and interesting so a bit of TV talk is only natural from movie lovers. And Adam you all should be tooting horns for those who work here cheers to that. Or toot to that?

    6. I watch Movie Fights every Sunday while I clean the house. It's more fun and entertaining that way. Sometimes I do shake my heads at what they say, but it's a hell of a lot better than listening to AMC Movie Talk (which won again for best online news program),

  8. Patrick may be referring to the "Despecialized Edition" of the Star Wars trilogy. It seems to be one of the more popular fan edits floating around.

    2. I'm really looking forward to Heaths Stars Wars thoughts, I don't mind admitting I am allowing myself to get excited for Dec 18th

I know its best to go in blind with no expectations but damn it its nice to be excited about a movie. Im gonna be watching all 6 as a build up just like Heath this year ready for action

  9. Great episode guys! I really like these ones where you talk about a lot of different things rather than focusing on one movie.

I like the points you made about the YouTube giants Honest Trailers and CinemaSins. I love it when the movies they poke fun at are things they actually like (recognizing the fact that, like you say, most of what they point out isn't actually what makes or breaks the movie), but more and more I feel like Honest Trailers in particular actually doesn't like the movies they critique. Their recent Interstellar episode in particular felt more mean-spirited to me, but maybe I'm just being overly sensitive since I've had to listen to so many people hate on that movie already. Not to get into an Interstellar debate, but I think that movie definitely falls apart when you look closely at its plot, but that didn't stop me from having it in my top 10 films from last year. I guess I just like it when those channels are more light-hearted about the content they present, because at the end of the day what they're pointing out might not matter given the right audience.

I'm not a big TV guy, but the more I hear about Daredevil the more interested I become. Badass Digest just covered it on their podcast, and now you guys, and I'm wondering if I should try it out. My girlfriend is more into TV than film, so we could use something else to watch together. I haven't sold her on Danger 5 yet, but I'm trying.

  10. As a fan of both stars and wars, I enjoyed the objective discussion of the prequels this week - especially the idea that you can like parts of a movie, dislike other parts of it, and still come away with a positive experience.

And that's exactly how I feel about those films and the last Indiana Jones movie: some of it works, some of it doesn't. But just because 50% a movie works for you doesn't mean you should give it a failing grade.

REVENGE OF THE SITH is my favorite of the prequels, though THE PHANTOM MENACE captures that elusive STAR WARS feeling in a way the other two don't. Looking forward to your upcoming articles on the subject, Heath.

    2. Me too. I'm a sucker for goofy impressions, especially when the other podcaster starts laughing. The Nick Nolte-ing of the various movie lines by Patrick a couple of episodes back (Backdraft?) had me rewinding a few times.

Also, I'm a big fan of the gritty reincarnations of the comic book movies, and I am really enjoying the Netflix Daredevil show. I think it does a great job of telling the stories of the different characters (except Foggy, whose story has yet to be told, as of episode 8), so that when there are character vs. character conflicts later, you feel the stakes for each side, not just one.

  13. Just to clarify:

F This Moviefest attendee Erik Allan Kramer's Thor was in The Incredible Hulk Returns, Rex Smith's Daredevil (and John Rhys-Davies' Kingpin) was in the follow-up, The Trial of the Incredible Hulk (which, I should point out, does not actually feature the Hulk on trial) and there were no guest heroes in the third movie, The Death of the Incredible Hulk.

Rumor has it a fourth movie was in the works (Revenge of the Incredible Hulk, because of course) that would have featured Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man, but Bill Bixby's ill health and subsequent death kept it from ever starting production.

    Jesus, I need a life.

  15. Just getting in to this one but wanted to take a moment and say congratulations, Doug!

Also, seems like there will be more than a few of us who will be watching all the Star Wars movies before The Force Awakens...any thoughts on trying to watch them together a la FThisMovieFest?

Finally, what needs to happen before we get some legit female superhero movies? Were Elektra and Catwoman or whatever else really so bad as to doom the rest of them forever? How many reboots of Spider-man and the Hulk and Superman and Batman must I watch before I get one Wonder Woman (hearing the latest news does not make me hopeful about its future)? Or any other female superhero? Why is it taking so long to bring them to the party, guys? *rant over*

Great job with the podcast, too!!!

  16. Iron Fist is the fourth show Netflix will be doing before The Defenders. Surprised no one else mentioned this, I was practically screaming into my zune at that part.

Also, this is obscure and no one will find it as funny as I do, but the main thing that sold me on Netflix's Daredevil before it even came out was Vincent D. as the baddy. He's pretty much the reason I became interested in Marvel in the first place, and he's still my favorite Thor.

    1. Yes! Iron Fist. I'm excited to see how that's handled. Should be cool.

I still haven't warmed to Vinnie D.'s performance as Kingpin (and I'm almost done with the season), but he is a badass Thor. And a decent mechanic.
