Where the F is Doug? #18

by Doug Schultz
I BET you can figure this one out.

Apologies in advance for the angle of this picture. Due to a setting sun (ugh, giver of life), I was only able to snap this selfie in the shade offered by a large tree to the left of the house. In the famous film in which this famous home is featured, our protagonist approaches the entrance from the right (that's where the camera is positioned also). Poor photography planning (on my part) aside, can you ID this movie location?

Try to guess without using Google!

As always, please post your guesses in the comments below. If you can find a matching movie still or video that features this location, great! Share that as well. If you're stuck, I'll post clues throughout the day.

This pic is also posted on our Instagram feed, www.instagram.com/fthismovie. If you're already on that app, please follow us!

Good luck!

  2. I really suck at this game - a brief window into how my brain works: I thought the capitalized "BET" was a clue... for Black Entertainment Television? Then thought Bernie Mac's house from "The Bernie Mac Show"? What the hell is wrong with me?

Then I just straight up cheated for the first time and found it's from a movie I really damn well should have known - I won't spoil it...

    1. The BET is a clue. But it's not an acronym (I just wanted to emphasize that word). It's another way to say something (think bet, wager, etc.). And that won't lead you to the name of the movie -- it represents the name of the real house.

DON'T ASK ME HOW MY BRAIN WORKS.

    5. I actually really like the remake too! My joke was more about the fact that don't you own like 200 different iterations of it? Or is that Evil Dead 2?

    1. I don't think so but Matt's comment had me going in that direction too. I assume Matt is just actually from Fargo.

  5. Would this happen to be Doc Brown's house?

    1. That's what I was thinking as well. I don't know how that fits with the BET clue though.

  6. 1640 Riverside Drive, a block past Maple. John F. Kennedy Drive, Hill Valley, California. It's the Doc's house.

It's actually called "Gamble House" named after the Gamble family.

  8. First thought was the Doc's house, I actually thought about the opening to BTTF Part 3 becasue there is a longer shot of it.

    1. Totally forgot about the opening of BTTF3, but you're right -- it's a much longer tracking shot.

  9. I'm late, but I wanted to officially congratulate Mark Munson, Patrick McAllister, Hevy Kevy, and Kersey Resch for guessing correctly.

This is Doc Brown's house in Back to the Future (1985) (and, apparently, the sequels too). Known as the Gamble House, it's a National Historic Landmark, a California Historical Landmark and museum in Pasadena, CA.
