Happy New Year from F This Movie!

Here's to a great 2017!

Next week we'll begin posting our "Best of 2016" lists, so let's use this last day of the year to talk about all the ways that 2017 is going to be great. The only way we're going to get through this is by thinking good thoughts and having each other's backs.

Thank you all for being here. Thank you all for being the best. We love you. Happy New Year.

  1. The first rule about Fthismovie is "Don't talk about Fthismovie!". But as I look around it obvious people been talking
With all the negative stuff this year this community has still remained positive and friendly and has kept growing, next year I am genuinely scared of what will actually happen once DT takes control, as a Brit and you guys are the only Americans I really chat with and are all intelligent I still don't really understand how it happened? It felt like a joke watching from afar, now it does actually feel like an episode of Black Mirror!
No matter what happens 2017 is the year I get my dream, my 4 disc bluray of Xtro! They can't take that away from me

    Happy new year everyone!

  4. I'm torn on my feelings for this year. I suppose it's just that I'm on board with the idea that it's been pretty miserable for the general public, but it's also been the year that my sister got married and then a short time later I became an uncle for the first time, so that's pretty cool. :)

But at any rate, happy new year, everyone! Here's hoping your 2017 kicks dick!

  9. New Twin Peaks in 2017, that's about all I need to be super excited for the coming year.

I hope all of you wonderful people have a great New Years Eve!

  10. Please God, let 2017 be better than 2016. It won't take much to clear that exceedingly low bar, but for some strange reason I've been feeling more cynical lately.

On a brighter note, I saw "Sing" yesterday and enjoyed the heck out of it. Yes it's predictable, yes it's corny, but when an animated pig voiced by Reese Witherspoon launched into "Shake It Off" I smiled more than I have in many, many months. Also, respect to any film that uses "Golden Slumbers."

  12. Someone give the CGI Peter Cushing a wooden stake and a mallet....this year needs to be put down like a rabid dog.

Here's to better times in the near future for all of us. <3

  13. I'm planning on watching Cloud Atlas or maybe The Warriors then wandering the NYC streets with a couple buddies and Chinatown sparklers and drinking booze from coffee cups.

    Anybody else got fun plans?

    1. You've been counting since your first movie? Canadians really are better people.

      Delete
    2. Haha, nah, I started a checklist a few years ago so I'm sure I'm missing or forgetting a few. No idea what the Canadian comment means.

      Delete
    3. Seriously, no shade intended. Pretty much every Canadian I've ever met has been the nicest/sincerest person (except for maybe Hawaiians) I've had the pleasure of meeting. I literally thought you had started a list as a child. Wasn't joking and wouldn't be surprised, our northern brothers/sisters truly rock! Happy New Year!

    4. Nah man, I wasn't offended at all! Cause I'm not Canadian! Haha Happy New Year!

    5. No shit??? What kind of coolness you running?

    8. Fucking A! My sister got her masters from John Hopkins! US is already looking up in 2017. I'll grab a wave for my east coast fam today...then of course some movies.

    9. Congrats on the years accomplishments! I also grew a 1/2 in, on my waist, plus I'm angling for a couple new toilets this years (totally not joking). Where can i buy a copy of your new album? Sticking with the water theme so going Deepwater Horizon based on your comment. Thinking it'll be slightly less spiritual but a fun time none the less. Would have watched it sooner if it was called "Atlantic is Falling".

    10. Seriously, Deepwater Horizon is crazy, exploding in your face, intense. I really liked it. Thanks for the interest in the new record! The press is going to start this month for pre-orders so the record isn't out yet (Feb. release) but in the meantime if you follow https://www.facebook.com/brahmofficial/ you'll get all the updates. Lots of surprises coming with the record including videos directed by a genius :)

    11. I'm super excited for you! I'll buy not only the new release but everything put out by you. I don't want that free download shit, I want to support. Show me the way.

      Delete
    12. Wow! I'm overwhelmed with the sentiment of support and it's much appreciated man. You can get it direct from the label HERE.

If you want CD's You can purchase them on Amazon (Brahm - A Thousand Curves, Built To Be Brought Down and my side projects were Night is Invisible and the Indie band I was in The Out_Circuit.) The new record is going to be limited 300 vinyl!

    13. Thanks, Cullen! Honestly super unexpected. In honor of your support I am bypassing my planned film for the night and watching North Shore as I promised a while ago. Will follow up.

      Delete
    14. North Shore started out super fun but then just kept dragging on. Being a PG movie I was surprised at the whole Strip Club scene in the beginning! I guess not being into surfing I prbably didn't get some of the cameos and references but my best take away from this one is that Nia Peeples has never looked better. My oh my. I'm glad I watched it! Thanks Cullen!

    15. hahaha! Nice. No doubt that was some prime Nia Peebles. If nothing else it moves the needle for 80's completionists!

Ended up getting ATC, BTBBD and NII on iTunes. They're all loaded up on the phone and I'll dig into them once my daily commute begins again tomorrow :)

  16. Saw Moana today and just LOVED it! Granted I'm totally bias as most of my life has been spent in Hawaii. However, the inclusion of the Polynesian culture in a manner palatable to folks from the mainland is just wonderful. The visualization were truly wonderful. However, the inclusion of Polynesian dance, tattoo, music, connection to the sea, mythology and Island culture were nicely adapted for mainstream. It makes me so very happy. Couldn't have been a better theatrical sendoff to 2016. If not your jam, I hope you found something similar. Happy new year peeps. CHEEHOO! Going forward is going to be alright with people like you in the world.

  17. Happy New Year all! Just got off work and checked Amazon Prime for something to watch. The first recommendation it had for me is Gozu from Takashi Miike, so that's what I'm watching.

    1. Well that... that really went to some unexpected places. There's a bit of a Lynch vibe to it (not as well constructed though obviously) and while it's a little slow through most of the movie (but with a lot of oddity throughout) it gets pretty far out there by the end and in some fairly uncomfortable ways. It's not going to be leaving my head anytime soon, so I guess for those who have Prime and a bit of patience maybe check it out. I can't promise anybody will like it as much as I did though. Crazy movie to start 2017 with.

    2. Love Gozu. My 2nd favorite Miike movie!

      Delete
    3. If I had to guess your favorite, I'd go with something like Dead or Alive 2: Tôbôsha rather than any of the obvious choices.

      Delete
    4. Nice guess. I actually only like DOA 1 not the sequels too much. My fav Miike is Fudoh!

  20. Happy New Year everyone! 2017 brings us the first new Edgar Wright movie in four years, three Marvel movies that could be great, the sequel to John Wick, new Fast and Furious, LEGO Batman, a new Gore Verbinski R-rated horror movie, Logan, Belko Experiment, a new movie from the Bone Tomahawk guy, new Scorsese, Free Fire, Ghost in the Shell, new Alien, new Blade Runner, new Planet of the Apes, new Nolan, Dark Tower, Annihalation, Rian Johnson's Star Wars, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Mute...I for one think this will be another good year for movies, if nothing else!

  21. Looking back on 2016 is a lot like waking up with a hangover; It's a little bit hazy, and sure, maybe some good times were had, but mainly you just really really want to have a shower and forget the whole thing happened.

Here's to a great 2017 and all the best to the whole F This Movie community.
