Just finished the song. SO GREAT. How do you do it, Erich?!?!?! About to start the podcast!
I love the score to Blue Velvet so enchanting.
I can't stop laughing at the ALL THE RIGHT MOVES VHS pausing. Glad I could help, Doug. ;)
It wouldn't truly be a 1986 top 10 list without both Coreys represented, so nice work. I did have one question that occurred to me while listening to the super-catchy song at the start of the podcast - do you guys know what you're doing?
I was two in 1986 and really want to expand my knowledge of 80s movies. This week's podcast and series of articles have given me a lot to watch! The Money Pit was on my family's rental rotation when I was a kid. It may have been the first Tom Hanks movie I saw.I would definitely recommend A Room with a View; it's one of the best of the Merchant/Ivory adaptations of Forster (one of my favorite authors). Criterion's release looks amazing!
Great podcast, cool dudes! It's taken a lot of schedule-juggling, but I'm able to make the 'fest on Saturday. Is it possible you're overthinking the success of Croc Dundee? It's less about whatever raw magnetism Paul Hogan might have, and more that a fish-out-of-water comedy is an easy sell for mass audiences. Also, it's not an action movie, but there's enough crossover that both action viewers and comedy viewers went to see it that summer. And Erich's song is just too awesome. I want to go back in time and have them play it at all my middle school dances.
Twitter people who are smarter than me, if I do all my Fthismovie Fest tweets in a thread will it show up for everyone participating if I use the hashtag each time, but also prevent my non Fhead followers from getting hundreds of tweets?
Erich's song legit sounded like it was from the 80s. Loved it!! Top Gun, yeaaahhh!!! That movie left an indelible impression on my childhood brain. Not a great movie by any means, but some films just come at that perfect intersection of age and time. Ferris Bueller carried similar impact. And I feel ya with The Money Pit, Doug! I loved that time in Tom Hanks' career. Great podcast, guys. - Scott
*Doug starts talking about Thrashin, I space out a little. Never heard of it. I’ll wait til they say a movie I know. Patrick asks Doug if this is his favorite skateboard movie. I think to myself, how many skateboard movies have I even seen? The Aussie one with Nicole Kidman... oh, and the one where the skateboard manufacturer tells the skateboarder to bite down on the skateboard tire... hey that kid looks like a young James Brolin... oh, that’s Thrashin, I’ve actually seen Thrashin. Wtf.
