Announcing F This Movie Fest 2020!

by Patrick Bromley
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of 1990!

It's time again for the world's only all-Twitter film festival! What started in 2012 as a way to celebrate our 100th podcast and join us all together for one day has grown into its own annual holiday, and we couldn't be happier to see things grow and take on a life of their own.

This year, we celebrate the amazing movies of 1990, and we're sticking with SIX movies instead of five (a tradition we started last year). That's right -- more to love! Please take note of the earlier start time, those of you who may have gotten used to FTMF kicking off at Noon CST.

If you're new to the site, here's the deal:

1. Secure copies of all six movies.
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter. If you're not already on Twitter, you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want.
3. Beginning at 10 am CST on Saturday, March 7th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest and then follow that hashtag. It's like what Joe Bob does on Shudder, only we were doing years earlier.) It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
4. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone.
5. When the last movie ends, we're going to try to go LIVE for our annual post-fest podcast on our YouTube channel. Be sure to stick around and join in the conversation.

Here's this year's lineup! (All times CST):

10 am
dir. Ron Underwood, 96 min.

Noon
dir. Steve Barron, 93 min.
(listen to our podcast)

2 pm
dir. Warren Beatty, 105 min.
(listen to our podcast)

4 pm
dir. Bruce Malmuth, 96 min.

6 pm
dir. Sam Raimi, 95 min.
(listen to our podcast)

8 pm
dir. Paul Verhoeven, 113 min.

As always, thank you to Doug Schultz for designing all of our FTMF artwork. And thanks to all of your for making this one of the best days of the year!

  1. Can't wait - great lineup! Just ordered Hard to Kill (as part of a pretty great 5-film Seagal blu-ray set) and Dick Tracy, but other than that I'm good to go! Hope my 5-year-old is ready for Tremors!

  2. No "Wild at Heart" or "Fire Birds" (Nic Cage's 1990 theatrical releases)? EPIC FAIL!!! :'(

Seriously, though, great pics all around. Only one movie I've never seen ("TMNT"), and securing copies of the three I don't own ("Turtles," "Dick Tracy" and "Hard to Kill") will be a breeze. Man, has it really been 30 years since I saw half of these flicks in theaters? :-O

  3. OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great lineup, and this will be my first year actually participating live instead of reading about it later so HUZZAH for that! :)

Yay F This Movie! Yay 1990! Yay being alive!

  6. Great lineup! 5/6 of this list just epitomizes my childhood (I was just a little late to Hard to Kill). Can't wait.

    2. Glad l held to my HD-DVD's of "Tremors" and "Darkman" (as well as 3 HD-DVD players), not to mention my 'Red Mars tin pack' SE of "Total Recall." :-)

  7. Gonna miss the first two or three films but will definitely be there for the last three, hopefully four. A great lineup!

  8. Sweetness! The middle four will practically be new to me - haven't seen them in 25+ years or at all. Time for little shopping spree.

  9. I already own Hard to Kill, but it's a PAL DVD, which means it runs 4% faster than it should, so I'll be almost four minutes off sync by the end. So it's either buy a Blu-ray or pause the movie once in a while.

This is what it's like to be a European F-head.

  10. Was 1990 the best year for posters? My goodness, these should all be in a museum.

  12. Probably my favorite lineup ever

  13. At last I have the push to watch Dick Tracy. I really think I'm gonna have a ball with that one. Can't wait!

  14. Great lineup! I think this is the first year where I've already seen every movie.

  16. This is going to be awesome!!! Thanks F This Movie!

  17. Was "Die Hard 2" in serious consideration for the line-up? To me that summer blockbuster and "Goodfellas" defined 1990 mainstream cinema.

  18. Goodfellas is too long. But I would have enjoyed Die Hard 2, if the line up wasn't already perfect!

    1. To be clear, Goodfellas isn't too long in general; it's too long for F-This-Movie-Fest.

    2. I knew what you meant! GOODFELLAS is sooo great, and I'm sure one of us will be writing about it that week! But it just doesn't fit the festival tone, right?

  19. I just bought a Hard To Kill DVD a few weeks ago! What coincidence. This is a great line up. I can't wait to watch TMNT again, and especially Total Recall. Darkman/Hard to Kill I've never seen, and I haven't seen Dick Tracy since the mid 90's. Looking forward to it!

  20. Again this is the perfect line up! I can't wait.

  21. Considering how well Aliens played last year, Total Recall is SUCH a good pick for the last slot!

  22. This is such a great lineup. I can't wait!

  23. I won't be able to participate (due to conflicting schedules with a kick ass Metal Festival in my area), but I wish you all the greatest of fun!

  24. Great lineup! I was so disappointed to miss last year because of work. Boo!! I don't foresee any issues this time though. Now I just gotta start a Twitter account...
