  1. I'm here from Patrick's DVD Verdict days!! It was in early 2012, and Patrick's favorite movies episode was featured on DVD Verdict at the time. I enjoy hearing what other people consider their favorites and their reasons for that so I took a chance and checked it out. And here I am still to this day! :)

  2. 2003 was the summer I got my license, so it was the year I could finally see a movie on my own schedule. And it was....pretty bad for PG-13 fare. Terminator 3, SWAT, Phone Booth, Paycheck, I saw Uptown Girls on a date. X2 was prob my favorite at the time. But right now, having still not seen Lost in Translation, I think I have to go with 28 Days Later, with Kill Bill and Freidkin's The Hunted (don't @ me) not far behind.

It's a shame you guys couldn't catch up on Memories of Murder before the podcast, it's really solid I think it would've had a good shot at both your lists.

    1. I know - I am so mad at myself. Knowing how deeply I love his other work, I'm sure I would love it.

And I love your list! I really liked PHONE BOOTH actually... :) And X2, 28 DAYS LATER, and more!

  4. My ten would consist of: Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman, Willard, Ong-bak: Muay Tau Warrior, Oldboy, Kill Bill Volume One, Freddy vs Jason, Underworld, Bad Santa, Identity, and Phone Booth.
No particular order, these are just the movies I go back to the most.

  6. This episode is so damn cute I was texting my wife lines from it while I was listening. haha You two are great.

I've loved It Can Happen to You and The Family Man since I was a kid but hardly ever hear anyone talk about them, let alone positively. Was great to hear your love for those movies!

I feel like I can guess what the "Half Cage" podcast with Adam is that's upcoming and I'm very excited about it....

  7. Thank you for a couple of hours of highly entertaining movie discussion, and reminding me that I REALLY need to watch House of 1,000 Corpses soon! Hard to believe but I've never seen it.

    1. I've never seen any Rob Zombie movie, so don't feel bad! I need Erika to just abduct me and force me to watch them all in her basement. haha.

    2. I'd just love to be a fly on the wall while they're watching movies. As enjoyable as the podcasts are, I bet the commentary during the films would be downright hysterical!

  9. Thanks Patrick and Erika! I love when you two record together. You have such an easy chemistry. Which I would hope so. You are married, after all! I have to put Kill Bill number one because I have rewatched it so many times! But wow, Lost in Translation was so so good. It put Scarlett Johansson on the map for me for sure. And Bad Santa is and always will remain a guilty pleasure. Unpopular opinion: Hulk was an ambitious superhero movie that worked for me. Finally... No love for The Room??? Okay, that last part was a joke. ;)

  10. I *always* cherish the P&E episodes of the pod. <3 So great!

Andy & I listened together and he was so relieved/excited that Lost in Translation was your 1&2 respectively. That movie holds a lot of meaning for both of us.

Patrick, Kill Bill is also my favorite Tarantino. I cannot get enough.

My unorganized and unofficial Top 10 of 2003:
    Lost in Translation
    Kill Bill
    Elf
    X2
    Oldboy
    Pirates of the Caribbean
    Swimming Pool
    Los Angeles Plays Itself
    Freaky Friday
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

(those aren't in order, by the way...)

My honorable mentions would be Once Upon a Time in Mexico, American Wedding, Memories of Murder, The Singing Detective, and Willard.

If I had made a top 10 that year, I can guarantee you 21 Grams would've been on it as well as Mystic River; Love Actually (which I do still love); other likely entries would have been Underworld, Daredevil and probably Matrix Reloaded. I also really loved The Last Samurai at the time although my love for that film has waned over time. I remember really liking Shattered Glass and that skateboard movie Grind (I was really into P.O.D. and had a crush on Adam Brody, ok?) during that time, not sure they'd have made a top 10 though.

Anyways great pod as always, love y'all and your movie love.

  12. Btw, you guys were pronouncing Saoirse perfectly. Source: my niece called Saoirse. And for future reference, Aisling (lead in The Nightingale) is pronounced Ash-Leen (rhymes with Kathleen). If you have an Irish accent, it sounds more like Ash-Ling. Source: another niece called Aisling.

  13. Took a look back, my Top 10 of 2003 was:
    Lost in Translation
    Kill Bill Vol 1
    American Splendor
    School of Rock
    City of God
    Better Luck Tomorrow
    28 Days Later
    Mystic River
    Elf
    Owning Mahowny

I’m not sure what I would change. I haven’t seen any of these is over 10 years. Many of them I only saw once. School of Rock would be lower. All the Real Girls or maybe Old School could make the list, but I haven’t seen those in over 10 years either. Not a particularly good year for movies

Oldboy would not have been on my list, unless I lived in Korea... it was not released in the states until 2005 (it is on my 2005 list). The Dreamers was a 2004 US release.

Have not seen May or Cabin in the woods, I’ll add those to my watch list!

  14. I was glad to here Cabin fever getting some love. There are two movies I feel connected to and I hope people think of me just slightly when someone watches Xtro of course is number 1 but number 2 is Cabin fever. The sign. "Dont sit next to Dennis!" I hope people think of me and smile at that little joke. Nothing to do with me of course but I can dream cant I?
