Announcing F This Movie Fest 2021

by Patrick Bromley
Celebrating our 10th year of F This Movie Fest!

It's time again for the world's only all-Twitter film festival! What started in 2012 as a way to celebrate our 100th podcast and join us all together for one day has grown into its own annual holiday, and we couldn't be happier to see things grow and take on a life of their own.

This year, we celebrate the amazing movies of 1988, and we're sticking with SIX movies instead of five (a tradition we started two years back). That's right -- more to love! Please take note of the earlier start time, those of you who may have gotten used to FTMF kicking off at Noon CST.

If you're new to the site, here's the deal:

1. Secure copies of all six movies, either physically or on streaming.
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter.
3. Beginning at 10 am CST on Saturday, March 6th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest and then follow that hashtag. It's like what Joe Bob does on Shudder, only we were doing it years earlier.) It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
4. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone.
5. Because of the COVID pandemic, our post-fest podcast plans are up in the air. We have traditionally broadcast a live episode; if that's possible for us to do this year, we'll make it happen. Stay tuned to the @fthismovie Twitter for updates.

Here's this year's lineup, celebrating the films of 1988!

  1. Truly a highlight of every year, this year even more than usual. Cannot wait. GMT+2 timezone represent!

The announcement immediately triggered a frantic search for ways to get ahold of all six movies. Had to order Action Jackson on Blu-ray (fingers crossed it arrives on time!), the others are either on my shelf, on Disney+ or in the local library.

    1. The local library is the best! For some reason, mine has *3* copies of the Shout Factory edition of They Live.

    2. Joseph, I think the "reason" may be that THEY LIVE is awesome!! :)

  2. Perfect line-up. Willow, Jackson & Roger will be first time re-watches since '88. I'll alert the pizza place to hire extra personnel.

  4. Great lineup. My 4 year old is obsessed with Beetlejuice, it may be the perfect time to introduce Roger Rabbit as well.

  6. This will be a lot more fun way of watching Beetlejuice the last time, when I was in the ER in August!

  7. OK, so I checked where all of them are available to stream for the US (aside from renting them from the usual places):

Beetlejuice is on SYFY, DirecTV and Sling

Willow and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? are on Disney+

Action Jackson and Die Hard are on HBOMax

They Live is on Peacock with ads

  11. What a killer lineup! 1988 is definately one of my favorite movie years, so besides the Fest I'm pumped for all the other 88-centric content. And Patrick finally gets to talk about Working Girl!

  12. This lineup seems designed to remind us all of why we love movies. Thanks, Patrick, for being a f'n TRAILBLAZER in lockdown-friendly entertainment, podcast-related community-building, and the sharing of Movie Love for Movie Lovers!

  13. What a line up! I'm definitely going to miss being in the basement with the crew, this is the exact scenario FMTF was built for: millions of movie fans, together apart, watching and enjoying movies together. Can't wait!

  14. It's on the calender. See you all there. Top picks as usual. But that's a given. Were in safe hands

  15. Craig R. Baxley is my Dwight H. Little.

  16. One of my favorite things about the fest is getting to see movies that I otherwise probably wouldn't ever watch. The first 4 are all new to me (I've seen bits and pieces of Beetlejuice over there years but never in its entirety).

Finally, something to look forward to. I can't wait!
