  1. I have a weird relationship with Shyamalan, as in I hadn't seen any of his movies (the exception being The Visit), despite knowing what nearly all of them are about, through podcasts etc.

I had a decade where I didn't watch many movies, and that was the decade where he rose and fell. We didn't have cable or a TV, and half the year I was working in the far North away from theaters. The other half of the year I was living in a region where all the movies were dubbed into French, so I could count the number of times I went to the cinema (mostly when visiting home for Christmas).

BUT, I have somewhat rectified that in the past month, and watched The Happening (it was amusing with the commentary), The Village (liked it quite a bit) and Old (loved loved loved). Looking forward to delving into The Sixth Sense, despite knowing "the twist".

    1. When Adam mentioned Anacondas on twitter, I decided to watch it, only to find I had already watched the first 10 minutes (the playtime position was saved). I sat down to make another stab at it the other evening, and made it about 10 minutes in before something came up. I'll get to the rest before the end of SMM. I love "Jungle Cruise" type movies, so I can say that the first 10 minutes were pretty good.

  2. I wonder if all those “but none of the sequels would exist without the original” guys put the first Friday the 13th at the top of that franchise ranking.

    1. I think the original Friday the 13th might be my least favourite of all the Friday movies.

    2. Logically, you would have to just rank them all in order.

  3. Adam, a funny coincidence. I also watched Torture Garden and From Beyond the Grave this month (and have already muddled them together in my head). They were the two of the eight Amicus anthologies I hadn't seen before.

    1. I have two left - The House That Dripped Blood and Vault of Horror. I'll probably get to them next October.

    2. House That Dripped Blood is my favorite of the bunch, so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on that one.

    1. i second this comment. You've created a great tune with the vibe of 80s synth wave a-la Gary Numan or Human League (both of which i love, so high praise!). Thanks for sharing your music and keep on creatin!

  5. I whole-heartedly agree that Toni Collette is the heart and soul of this movie. The scene in the car is one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever.

And yeah, I counted the wows in The Haunting. I was a little disappointed it wasn't more though, since he says it twice in his first scene.

  6. Great episode! I wondered how you were going to fill 2 hours and... well, darn it, ya did.

I remember seeing The Sixth Sense (and Bats) in theaters back in '99. I didn't know the twist. I'm not sure if I knew there was one. It blew my mind, and left me eager for whatever Shyamalan did next. Little did I know the twist is that it would never get quite as good again.

  8. I liked The Sixth Sense (watched it yesterday for the first time), but it was just ok. Collette was amazing. I wonder if I would have liked it more had I watched it during it's original release with all the hype. I've watched a few recent Shyamalan movies this month, and did appreciate how this one was film instead of digital. And Willis actually trying was nice too.

I'm definitely going to see Dune in the theater. I'll probably wait a few weeks, because I don't enjoy "opening night" crowds.

But the movie I'm most looking forward to is The Last Duel. I might see it this weekend, because I get the feeling it'll get pulled sooner rather than later. It's fucking Ridley Scott, perhaps my favourite director, with a big budget medieval movie. Exactly the kind of movie that's never going to get made anymore, because $. And he's getting on in years, so I'm going to see everything he makes on the big screen from now on. It's funny that I've heard "the only people seeing it are 35+". I'm 35+ and couldn't be more hyped. I guess I'm old now, ha.

  9. I'll keep backing it every time you say it haha, but yes Laurie Strode, at least in this trilogy, IS a nothing burger character and HK WAS better off with her taking a back seat.
