Celebrating the movies of 1998!The world is on fire, both figuratively and literally. Things are bad and ugly right now. We need to come together and at least try to feel joy in each other's company and in our shared love of movies. Enter F This Movie Fest, the world's original online movie festival!
Things being what they are, we will no longer host this festival on Twitter (which I'm told is now called 'X'). For the first time ever, F This Movie Fest will be hosted on BlueSky, which is a lot like Twitter but with fewer porn bots and less Nazi ownership.
If you're unfamiliar with F This Movie Fest, it's a day every year where we all watch movies together and talk about them over BlueSky using the #fthismoviefest hashtag. Here's the deal:
1. Secure copies of all six movies! (DVD/Blu-ray/4K, Amazon Prime Video, Apple/Vudu rentals, public libraries, etc.) Try to avoid streaming services that include ads because they will throw off the timecodes.
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on BlueSky (@fthismovie). If you're not already on BlueSky (some of you probably aren't yet), you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want -- or, even better, let it stay dormant until next year's F This Movie Fest!
3. Beginning at 10 am on Saturday, March 1, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on BlueSky (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest). It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER! By following the hashtag #fthismoviefest, you hopefully won't miss a single post!
4. This is not a snark fest. We are not making fun of these movies. We love these movies.
5. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone. It's a long day! A marathon, not a sprint.
At the end of the fest, we typically do a live show on YouTube recapping the movies, sharing some favorite posts, and answering your questions. Be sure to join us! Details and a link to the show will follow on the day of the fest.
Here's the full lineup! And don't forget we'll be celebrating the films of 1998 the whole MONTH of February leading up to March 1. It's 1998 month! It's F This Movie Fest!!

ReplyDeleteYou want a snake eye? I can get you a snake eye, believe me. Hell, I can get you a snake eye by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with Cage.
DeleteI'm so excited for this!!! Thanks for giving us something to look forward to, Patrick!
ReplyDeleteSweet, 4 new-to-me movies and I'm extra excited for Psycho!
ReplyDeleteThank you for keeping the Fest going (giving us the best holiday) and spreading the movie love for so many years!!
I’m super excited for this line up because it’s four new (I’ve always meant to watch them but never got around to it) movies for me!
ReplyDeleteAnd now the annual unanswerable question: do I watch them ahead of time to familiarize myself for Skeet appreciation, or first time watch them the day of the fest?
I’m sure I will watch them day-of… as usual.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad this will be on bluesky...ive needed something to help me make the jump and this is just dandy! Loooooove the lineup. Lets Go!
Heck yeah, Small Soldiers, fun movie. It need to exist in my collection, but i always forget to buy it
ReplyDeleteAh, something to get me through February. 1998 bringing me back to when I saw most of these for free working in a cinema.
ReplyDeleteThis gives me the excuse to rewatch Fallen, He Got Game, Dark City, John Carpenter's Vampires, The X Files and Phantoms this month.
DeleteEvery year when the FtMF announcement posts, I hold my breath hoping it's not the same week as local school spring break (girlfriend is a teacher and we use that week to take a long camping/hiking road trip). This year, not even close to a conflict. Great choices for movies (as always) and even better choice for a date!
ReplyDeleteWe've entered the grim & gritty era (era) of FTMF. From what I can tell, we haven't had four back-to-back R-rated movies since FTMF 4, but I could be wrong. Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI did not even realize this! Since the kids are older now I pay less attention to the ratings, but I like that we are in our gritty era (era).
DeleteSo excited for this! It feels like it's... been a while.
ReplyDeleteMy schedule is wonky-kerblonky these days, but I'm going to do everything I can to make it for the full day.
I assume I'm not the only one who's a little trepidatious about the Psycho remake, but I'll give it a shot.
In honor of Lebowski, will we be replacing #ProofOfPizza with #ProofOfWhiteRussians?
Far out, man. Far f***ing out!
ReplyDeleteWow, after a busy week, I completely missed the announcement! I can't wait! It's always one of my favourite days of the year. Small Soldiers and Snake Eyes are both movies I've been meaning to see.
