Yes, we're celebrating the year 1991, a terrific year for movies and an even better year for action movies. It might be the BEST year for action movies, actually.

If you're not already following F This Movie! on Twitter, what are you waiting for? The festival is coming up on February 2nd, and you don't want to miss us making history AGAIN, do you?

In case you forgot what to do or are brand new to the site, check out the festival guidelines here. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will will attest to how much FUN it was last year (hint hint), so we hope you'll all join us and make this year an even bigger success. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?

IS IT FEBRUARY 2nd YET??

    2. Weren't you the winner of The Rocketeer last year? See how it comes in handy?

  2. I'm so sad they never made a sequel to Last Boy Scout. It's so good. Also, since this is Bruce Willis 22 years ago will he now look like Joseph Gordon Levitt?

Lastly, Nino Brown gets out of prison this year!

  3. Again I'll be joining in for the second half. Hopefully I won't sleep in this year. Would have loved an excuse to see last boy scout and rocketeer again, been ages, but I've never actually seen New jack city before so I'm looking forward to that.

And last year was tons of fun. This is a must.

  4. Wow! Three movies I've never seen before (The Last Boy Scout, The Rocketeer and New Jack City) only one that, I'll be honest, I'm less enthused about (Bogus Journey), but that is still fun, and one bona fied classic (T2). Solid line-up. I'll defintiely make a strong effort to participate this time around.

  5. I might actually participate this year (not that i didnt want to last time). Havent seen 'Last Boy Scout' but it's written by Shane Black and I love 'Lethal Weapon' and 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' so hopefully it's equally clever and fun. Havent seen 'New Jack City' and i have no desire to do so but hey it's in the lineup so whatevs. I also havent seen 'The Rocketeer' but have always wanted to, so i'm excited about that. 'Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey' has me less enthused because, well ok, I think 'Excellent Adventure' is a genuinely good movie (maybe that's the nostalgia talking) and i also loved 'Bogus' as a kid but when i think about it now, i rememeber a very dopey mess, so who know. And T2 is great. Hopefully i can participate.

    1. But now you will rewatch Bogus Journey and discover that it's actually a very smart movie disguised as a stupid one.

Hope you can join us, WHOEVER YOU ARE!!

    2. Bogus Journey is a very smart movie disguised as stupid one? I can't wait to hear this one.

  6. I can't believe so many regular readers/listeners of 'F This Movie' haven't seen "The Last Boy Scout." This will actually make the live tweets so much fun to read for those of us that know the movie and its insane moments/set-pieces/lines. I also can't believe there's only one Netflix movie option and the rest are on amazon (hooray!). I only own "T2" but have been looking for an excuse to get "The Last Boyscout" cheap on Blu-ray, and now I have one. :-)

Dumb question, do I need to rewatch "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" in order to get the in-jokes or overall humor in "Bogus Journey"? I haven't seen these movies in a couple of generations and I honestly don't remember most of them (except for George Carlin showing up and the finale of "B&TEA," which came back to me while I watched "Lincoln" in theaters last year). Also, will there be a podcast recorded right after the festival to immortalize the moment, ala "100 Show Spectacular" and the post-"Massacre" podcasts, or was that only last year?

    1. There might be a couple jokes in Bogus Journey that would benefit from having recently seen Excellent Adventure, but it's not all that necessary. If you have the time and desire, go for it, but I wouldn't sweat it too much.

The plan is to record a podcast afterwards to talk about the fest, mostly because it's one of the few opportunities we have to get most of us on the same show.

  8. Catching up with the backlog, sorry.

    My new-to-movie for Monday (1/14/12):
Sessue Hayakawa in THE DRAGON PAINTER (1919) on TCM-HD. http://www.dvdverdict.com/juryroom/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=6028&p=74503#p74503

  9. Great lineup - looking forward to participating again this year! Last year was awesome - though I was alone on my couch I really felt like I was watching the movies WITH everybody, you know? I'm not a big Twitter fan but if it has one great purpose it's creating a virtual theatre where you can watch movies "with" people from all over the world and make smart-ass comments about them (the movies, not the people). I could practically feel myself holding hands with Patrick while JB treated me to a Popcorn Surprise during Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. When Doug pitched a tent during Fast Times at Ridgemont High somehow we all knew. And when Mark slapped Mike's hand as it crept up his inner thigh, I felt it in MY hand because me and Mike are the Corsican Brothers. Whoa, okay, that all took an unexpected homoerotic turn that I'm going to pretend it's too late to delete - let's just say it was a lot of fun and you'd be crazy (and a little homophobic) not to participate!

Somehow I have never seen The Last Boy Scout - I have no idea why, I was very aware it existed, I remember hearing about a (SPOILER?) helicopter decapitation of some sort, but yeah, just never watched it so looking forward to that.

I also haven't seen New Jack City. I have been a huge fan of Mario van Peebles since his unforgettable term as vaguely-Jamaican Jake on Jaws 4: The Revenge so I'm sure it will be excellent!

The rest I've seen but really like - great selection - can't wait!

    1. And by "term" I mean "turn" - I assume he was neither elected nor sentenced to play that role, though maybe the latter?

  10. Great lineup!! I'm going to join in if at all possible. Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey may actually be the last time I remember seeing Keanu Reeves emote.

On a (perhaps too) personal note, The Rocketeer, in addition to being a very underrated film, is the first time I remember having a serious crush on an actress. Has Jennifer Connelly EVER looked hotter than she does in this film? I don't think so.

  11. I know it's not part of the Fest, but one film from 1991 I would like to see you F is "Hudson Hawk". I was 15 years old when that film came out and thought it was going to be just another Bruce Willis action film.
However, when I realized it was a zany comedy, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure that movie is a total mess, but it has some amazing comedy moments and one liners.
Plus, being the 2nd film written and directed by the men who made "Heathers"... priceless.

"Hey mister, are you going to die?"

    1. Bunny...ball ball!

Hudson Hawk was VERY close to taking the fifth spot. Very close. But we didn't want to overload on B-dubs, and a recent rewatch of the movie (to see if it should be included) reminded me of what a crazy, indulgent mess that movie is. And that I still kind of like it. A podcast is a great idea.

  12. Everyone knows that Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, while not a "classic" by any standard, will be really fun (probably the MOST fun) to watch and comment on with a group, right? RIGHT?

  13. I live 20 minutes away from the steel mill scene in T2. Just sayin'

  14. All of these movies have great posters!

  15. Heads-up: "The Rocketeer" is showing on Amazon Instant Video as unavailable. This might be corrected before next weekend's Tweet Fest but it might not; "New Jack City" is also showing as 'Rental/Purchase' only, not free for Prime subscribers like "T2." If you were counting on amazon for these movie options for the Film Festival get a back-up plan, especially for "Rocketeer."

  16. I haven't watched these films in a while. Looking forward to them. Especially that "smart" and funny Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. I have fond memories!

  17. An issue we ran into at MMM when doing our BB commentary that may impact the F-Fest for the few of us not in US. Pal DVDs run at a different speed than NTSC DVDs and Blu Rays. All regions of Blu Rays run at the same speed.
    Apparently.
    Just an FYI
...probably wont impact anyone except me and Sol (is UK PAL...probably not, so im just talking to myself. How ya doin Brad?....Not going to answer me, eh?.....Fine, forget you clown!).
