Spielberg directed the first Columbo (after the pilot). The same year he did Duel. I don't know which came first
Free Willy is top shelf Wincer
You guys just keep on doing what you're doing, like the titular Phantom. Slam Evil. Also Zane in the 90's. Demon Knight, Sniper, This World Then The Fireworks, Titanic, and I'll throw in Dead Calm even though I think it was in the late 80's. If only he played the Mummy in 1999.
I stopped liking Ewan Mcgregor after 2003. Which was weird because he was mah faaavorite, and all my girlfriends' favorite before that. But it's almost like he purposely stopped doing that "shtick" thing he always did before - that crazy open mouth smile with lover eyes thing like in Moulin Rouge, Down with Love and A Life Less Ordinary. (I also liked the really not-that-great Eyes of the Beholder movie with Ashley Judd). I always figured he purposely changed, like he wanted to do something drastically different.
I agree with Patrick, I still like A Life Less Ordinary after all these years, which surprises me, too.
Me too, Meredith! I think there's been enough time away from it that it now seems like such a special, sweet story that's done in a way we don't see as often anymore. I love it.
Just wanted to chime in. As an historian who has worked at the KZ-Sachsen-Hausen I completly agree with JB. Life is Beautifull is degrading to actual holocaust survivors. On another note I need to see Radioland Murders sounds really interesting.
This episode brought me lots of joy! I also realized there are a lot of 90s gems I need to track down, including Lonestar and Radioland Murders and Deep Cover. I was super happy to hear some love for A Life Less Ordinary and Velvet Goldmine, two movies I watched when my cousin and I were in our "print out current actor crush's IMDB page and bring it to Movie Gallery to rent as many of the titles as possible" phase. That's also how I discovered Shallow Grave, another 90s movie that deserves more love. JB, I lucked into a physical copy of Cronenberg's Crash when I worked at Disc Replay and a customer traded it in. I immediately bought it before it hit the sales floor, and I'm glad I did since it's so hard to find now. I hope eventually one of the specialty labels puts it out on Blu-ray, because it deserves a resurgence.
True story: I was listening to the podcast with my earbuds on at work, and when Patrick said he'd never seen The Straight Story, I loudly blurted out, "WHAT?!?" in the middle of the room.
it is so lovely
