The world's only all-Twitter film festival returns!
You knew it was coming, but here's the official announcement: F This Movie Fest 6 will be taking place on February 11th!
If you're unfamiliar with F This Movie Fest, it's a day every year where we all watch movies together and talk about them over Twitter. Here's the deal:
1. Secure copies of all five movies! (DVD/Blu-ray, Amazon Instant Video, iTunes rentals, public libraries, etc.)
2. If you're not already doing so, follow F This Movie! on Twitter (@fthismovie). If you're not already on Twitter, you should sign up! You can quit the very next day if you want.
3. Don't quit. Keep following us on Twitter.
4. Beginning at Noon on Saturday, February 11th, we all start watching the first movie at the same time from the comfort of YOUR OWN HOME and talk about it on Twitter (just tag all of your comments with #fthismoviefest). It will be like a running commentary. A conversation. Just like WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM TOGETHER!
5. We are not making fun of these movies. We love these movies.
6. If you have to leave for a movie or can only participate in half the festival or whatever, that's cool! Just check in or out with us on Twitter so we know who's there and when. Hopefully, we can all do the full marathon, but we know that's not easy for everyone.
This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of 1987, one of the last great years for the kind of mainstream genre cinema the decade produced. The lineup is:

ReplyDeletePrime directive: Participate in this festival
ReplyDeleteThis is the day I get out of the Navy, hooray!
ReplyDeleteThis is the greatest comment in the history of the world.
DeleteThis is about a week before my baby is due, but whatever that will just have to wait.
ReplyDelete5 perfect movies. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I can participate!! And what a line up. Princess Bride is one of the few movies that will get me up at 5am (Aus Time) Bring on the coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteAmen Lindsay. This is one worthwhile reason to wake up absurdly early on our Sunday for...
DeleteI was listening to a podcast this morning and wondering when the announcement would be made. I therefore conclude that I can make things happen with my mind.
ReplyDeleteYou have a special gift.
DeleteFirst time I've owned them all - can't wait - one of my fave days of the year!
ReplyDeleteOnly movie I have to grab is Raising Arizona - easy!
DeleteSo.Freaking.Excited!!!
ReplyDeleteOn my way to work this morning I was just thinking that it was about time for this announcement, and then it arrived!
ReplyDeleteDang. I'm actually planning to be on vacation that day and not near a TV, but this looks like an amazingly fun lineup. Hope all you guys have fun!
ReplyDeleteIf the apocalypse hasn't come yet....I'd love to watch these.

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm fucked. That whole day is booked with much less important family shit.
ReplyDeleteYesss I'll be available for this and I'm so excited about the lineup.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is due to give birth to our first child the day before, on the 10th, and my initial reaction to this post was still: "Hmmm... How am I going to make this work?..."
ReplyDeleteTo show my dedication, I've just purchased all of these, except for Predator, I have that already. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteGonna try and finally join in on one of these :)
ReplyDeleteThis is also my first time with an FYI This Movie! Fest that I've owned all the flicks.
ReplyDeleteTo say that I'm excited for this one is an understatement.
F!* excellent.
DeleteFor Your Information This Movie sounds like a translation of a state-run North Korean entertainment site.
Hot damn, that's a lineup!
ReplyDeletePsyched!! Bought Princess Bride and Monster Squad last night and just upgraded Raising Arizona to Blu Ray. All set. Woo hoo!!
ReplyDeleteI've got all of these on VHS. I'm ready to go.
ReplyDeleteDamn good line-up. Only new-to-me, don't-own-a-copy-already flick is "Raising Arizona," and since it's early Coen Bros. flick it will definitely not suck. Thanks for the weeks-ahead notice, will ask for the day off from my three jobs with plenty of notice.
ReplyDeleteAll hail 1987! :-) Is this the first time the Film Fest is also celebrating an anniversary of the movies chosen? Every one of these movies will be 30 years old this year. That's genius! Patrick & Co. knows that they're doing!®
Not sure if I'll be able to watch all 5 movies. I've got Lego Batman, 50 Shades Darker, and John Wick: Chapter Two to contend with at work that weekend so I may not be able to avoid work completely that day. Still, really looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteAlso I hope we get 1974 at some point although that would be a really hard one to top given some of Patrick's favorites from that year.
My first year listening to the podcasts and being part of the world of F!
ReplyDeleteI'm watching in the UK and will have a nice 12pm start. Don't think a 2.30am showing of The Monster Squad will suffice as it's my first viewing but I'm all in for the others. Excited to join in :)
There's quite a few of us UK folk, we'll keep you company!!If it is anything like last year, it will be great.
DeleteWill be waking up at 3:00 am in Japan to start this bad boy.
ReplyDeleteWhat - a - lineup! Apart from Raising Arizona, these movies were a huge part of my childhood. My brother had monster squad on constant rental from the video shop. I had predator on constant play from taping it off tv. Robocop and princess bride both got a ton of play. Add in Conan the Destroyer and you'd have about 50% of what I watched in the 80s. Raising Arizona I didn't get to until I fell in love with the Coens after seeing The Big Lebowski in the theater, but it's certainly the one on this list I've seen the most as an adult.
In last year's lineup, there was a lot I hadn't seen. I was a bit too young to be aware of 1984's movies (except Conan and The Terminator; wow, what a year for arnie!) and a lot of them slipped completely under my radar growing up. Part of the fun of last year's festival was certainly the discovery.
This year, it's all about celebration and nostalgia, which will be fantastic in its own way. Can't wait!
this would be noon CST, right?
ReplyDeleteDon't want to be the dumb kid that shows up a few hours late or early.
Great line-up, this will be my second year. last year was superfun!
That's correct! Glad you'll be joining us!
DeleteJust checked, and it looks like unrated directors cut Robocop is only 26 seconds longer. Most of it's differences are alternate as opposed to extended shots. Shouldn't really matter which version peeps watch.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I'm going to miss Fthismovie Fest..Will be on the road all afternoon. The year with Robocop and Predator too :(
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'll be able to catch the last flick with everyone.
I am a bit out of the loop this year and this completely fell off my radar. What a cool lineup....I guess you guys know what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteIs? It? Saturday? Yet?
ReplyDeleteIt is!
