    1. Hope it works out better than Wheel of Time has so far.

    2. As a lover of the LOTR books and movies (even the hobbit ones), I haven't gotten motivated to watch that new series.

I think because it's just TV/streaming, it feels less important. Like I'll be able to get around to it eventually. Which I will. Hopefully soon.

I loved the Wheel of Time books back when there were only 3 of them. But then the "trilogy" didn't end, and the books kepts going on forever, and I abandoned it. I haven't heard anything good at all about the series, but I'm still curious to check it out. Like a lot of TV series, I just don't have the time, even though the interest is there.

  2. It's been my headcanon that the dirty little guild Dan Ackroyd created evolved into the John Wick universe. I'm glad Mark was thinking along the same lines. Great episode.

    1. I mean, it's the ONLY thing that makes sense. Although definitely more of a Bowery King guy rather than a Winston.

  3. This podcast is killing it. Note on the soundtrack: Train in Vain was the Clashes biggest American hit and I think is kind of a hidden track on London Calling. So, GPB pick's a cool Clash song but don't go full Stranger Things and pick an icon one. So cool. (No dis on Stranger Things; I am a fan.)

  4. I love Grosse Pointe Blank so naturally I loved this podcast episode. The discussion of "You don't get to have me" was especially excellent--I have also wrestled a bit with the movie's ending while also of COURSE wanting the two funny, pretty, cool people to get together. The way I've reconciled it in my own head is that the Minnie Driver character has her principles and speaks her piece, but even she is conflicted because she DOES genuinely have feelings for this dude, as problematic as he is. Maybe she should trust herself to hold out for someone who isn't a contract killer that stood her up on prom night, but when you've been pining after someone for years and there's a flicker of a chance they might be changing for the better... maybe you let things slide more than you should.

    1. Something I forgot to say was that Debi is still living in the town that she grew up in, and I think that says something about how she feels stuck too. Did she go away for school? Did she start working at the radio station immediately? We focus on Martin's journey a lot and forget that maybe Debi didn't get the same chance to get away.

Really, the healthiest person seems to Marcella (Joan Cusack)? She went to her reunion, seems competent at her job, seems generally upbeat, and has the time to look out for other people like her boss.

  5. This was a great podcast, even though I've never seen the movie. I kind of missed John Cusack's career, because I hardly watched movies from 2000-2010. The only movies I've seen him in are 2012 and Hot Tub Time Machine. Which he's great in both! But I feel like I'm missing out on some of the love.
