ARACHNOPHOBIA: The "Thrill-omedy" Turns Thirty
by Brian Keiper
I must have been four or five, all dressed up and getting ready to go to church. My mom was standing behind me brushing my hair as we both stood in front of our large bathroom mirror. Suddenly, her face went ashen and her expression turned to stone-faced seriousness.
“Hold still!” she said, “there’s a spider in your hair.”
As I write these words, I still feel the terror I felt as a little kid in that moment. Would it bite me? How long had it been there? Had it laid eggs?
“April fool,” my mom said.

Cinema Bestius: The Big Lebowski
This week, we look at the man, the movie, the myth… The Big Lebowski. Many films become cult sensations; this film spawned a religion. Yes, the Pope of Film takes this very seriously.

Review: Monsters University
by Adam Riske
I doubt I’ll remember anything about Monsters University at summer’s end. However, it’s an entertaining and charming movie in the moment. Cute is the right word to describe it.

Review: Red State
I have a suspicion that if Kevin Smith hadn't directed Red State, no one would be talking about it. That's because it's an unremarkable mess, interesting only because of where it fits into Smith's filmography. It's something "different" from the director -- it even obnoxiously says so on the movie poster -- but that alone does not make it very good.
