25 Good Movies Released in 2012
In the next two weeks, we'll be recording our annual "Overrated, Underrated & Ugly" and "Best of the Year" podcasts. We'll be publishing lists of our favorite movies from 2012 from all of the F This Movie! contributors. With all the talk of 'best' this and 'worst' that, a lot of stuff will be flying under the radar. These movies won't make my "best of" list. They won't be on the "overrated" or the "underrated" lists. They're flawed, but they're good movies. 2012 had a lot of those. They should be recognized.

I'll Watch Anything: Patrick Watches Santa Claus: The Movie
by Patrick Bromley
Like Katherine Heigl and Larry the Cable Guy, Santa Claus seems incapable of starring in a good movie.

Director Essentials: Steven Spielberg
by Patrick Bromley
Of all the Director Essentials columns that I've done so far, this one was the hardest.

Unsung!: Miller's Crossing
When the conversation turns to the Coen brothers, no one ever talks about Miller’s Crossing. Blood Simple? Sure. Fargo? You betcha. Big Lebowski; O Brother, Where Art Thou?; No Country for Old Men; and True Grit? Obviously. But not a word about Miller’s Crossing. Why?

Review: 10 Years
There is no shortage of movies built around high school reunions. The Best of Times. Peggy Sue Got Married. Grosse Pointe Blank. Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion. Just earlier this year there was American Reunion, a terrible, lifeless comedy that couldn't make us care about the adult lives of a group of characters even though we had already spent three movies with them. This year's much better reunion movie is the barely-released comedy drama 10 Years, written and directed by Jamie Linden. It's a high school reunion movie less concerned with looking back than with examining the present. It presents no real villains, nor characters with longtime scores to settle. It's not as good as Ted Demme's great Beautiful Girls, but it belongs much more in that conversation than it does with junk like American Reunion.
F This Movie! - Hitchcock
You should listen to Patrick and JB talk about Hitchcock even if you haven't seen Hitchcock, because they just might stop you from ever seeing Hitchcock.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Dec. 14)
Very important trailerz this week, F-Heads. Like, SUPER significant stuff (and even some odd, novelty entries, like this Japanese ad for Iron Man 3). Seems like the studios are really pushing out previews for their marquee movies all at once. Almost as if they think that next week ... will be too late? Hmmm. Go figure. #nomorepullups

Doug Asks Patrick Questions About Movies
Patrick knows a lot about movies. Doug has seen Kissing a Fool
dozens of times. In an effort to expand Doug's cinematic horizons,
he'll be asking Patrick questions about movies in a column we're
calling "Doug Asks Patrick Questions About Movies."

Unsung!: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
With the talent involved in this film, how could it have failed at the box office? That is not a rhetorical question. I am waiting. HOW COULD IT HAVE FAILED?
Answer me.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Dec. 7)
Today lives in infamy, folks! Good thing the new Star Trek Into Darkness teaser was released yesterday (featured after the jump). Otherwise, you know ... INFAMY. As exemplified by arguably the best trailer for the worst movie, Michael Bay's craptacular Pearl Harbor! Sorry, greatest generation -- Hitler and his Nazi thugs strike again!

Unsung!: The Other
by JB
Three novels are published in a four-year span; all three concern evil children. All three novels are runaway best sellers. All three novels are made into movies. Two of those movies are runaway blockbusters. The other movie is The Other.

Heavy Action: Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning
by Patrick Bromley
I haven't yet broken the Direct-to-Video seal on Heavy Action (it's going to happen soon), and Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is the closest I've come. But the movie is actually getting a small theatrical run -- in 3-D, no less, though I can't conceive of a world in which this movie needs to be seen in 3-D or how it would be improved by the format -- so I'm getting by on a technicality.
