1986 Week: A Primer

by Patrick Bromley
Happy 1986 Week!

We're celebrating the movies of 1986 all week long at F This Movie! as we gear up for F This Movie Fest 2019, taking place this Saturday, March 9, beginning at 10 am CST.

1986 was a special year for movies in a lot of ways, not the least of which is the sheer variety of the kinds of movies from which audiences could choose. There was a great mix of high and lowbrow, of art fare and populist crowdpleasers, of British crime thrillers and awards bait dramas and goofy horror movies produced by Charles Band. There was something for everyone.

We've covered a number of titles from '86 in the past here on the site, and the whole team will be covering a whole bunch more this week. To get you in the mood and to help you revisit this great year for movies, we've put together this quick collection of links to past pieces and podcasts covering 1986 films, some of which we'll be watching as part of FTMF 2019 and some of which we may never watch again (looking at you, Solarbabies). So take a look, get your '86 on, and enjoy!

  1. No one can talk me out of my maternal love for a wide-eyed Lukas Haas, or my eternal love for... well, not for Solarbabies, but for your column on Solarbabies.
