This has been a great year for movies, and I find myself at a bit of a loss. Usually at this time, I bemoan the lack of great movies with a frown and a groan. This year I have nothing to complain about; it has been an embarrassment of riches. I can hardly wait for our year-end, wrap-up podcasts. Here are my favorite movie moments from 2013.

My Favorite Movie Moments of 2013
2013 will go down in history as a great year for movies, and while I saw very few movies I really loved, I saw a ton of stuff that I liked a lot. Here are some of my favorite moments from the movies I liked, and even some from movies I didn't.

Riske Business: Great Performances of 2013
This week, Patrick and I chatted about some of our favorite performances from the year in film that was 2013. If you’re noticing some surprising omissions it is because a) we’re saving our comments for our top 10 lists b) we have not yet seen all of the year-end releases at the online equivalent of press time (e.g. Her, The Wolf of Wall Street, Grudge Match - JK?). Even so, here are at least 20 great performances worth calling out and recommending you see.

Review: Saving Mr. Banks
There is probably a really interesting story to be told about the process of turning P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins into a Disney movie. I'm just not sure it should have been Disney telling the story.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Dec. 13)
It's not even Chrimbus, and I feel like we're already drowning in previews for next year's summer blockbusters. I'm not complaining; just an observation. That's what I do around here: make dumb observations. I'm like the Andy Rooney of F This Movie! "Didja ever wonder why movie trailers are called trailers when they're shown BEFORE the movie?" RIP.
Netflix This Movie! Vol. 55
This week's offerings include some new holiday classics and some of this year's underappreciated indie movies.

Review: Inside Llewyn Davis
There are some movies that announce themselves as masterpieces. Others sneak up on us quietly. Inside Llewyn Davis sneaks up on us quietly.
Review: American Hustle
by Adam Riske
American Hustle is a crazy mess of a movie, but one I’m really starting to like. It’s over-directed, overacted and exhausting but also consistently funny, ambitious and pretty provocative. I haven’t had such a hard time pinning down a movie in quite a while. It actually kept me up most of the night I saw it and I am eager to see it again.

Heath Holland On...Expectations, Great.
Sometimes the thing standing between me and enjoyment of a movie is myself. And that fat guy at the concession stand.

Review: Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol. 1
by Patrick Bromley
Toxic goo, melting boobs, three-foot penises and duck rape. Yep, it's a Troma movie.

Riske Business: 15 Reasons Comedy Sequels are the Worst
A few exceptions aside (see my picks at the end of this column), comedy sequels are awful. With Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues coming this month, I felt like it was a good time to dive into some reasons so many comedy sequels are unsuccessful.
F This Movie! - Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol. 1
Patrick sits down with Catherine Corcoran, Asta Paredes and Clay von Carlowitz, the three stars of the new Troma movie Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol. 1, to talk Troma, art, sexuality and what it's like to sit at the loser table. This is a good one.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Dec. 6)
Well, this is interesting. A movie theater in Florida (WHERE ELSE?) accidentally played the Nymphomaniac trailer before the new Disney movie, Frozen. As I'm sure you know, Nymphomaniac is Lars von Trier's upcoming film about sex addiction. If you want to see the NSFW trailer for yourself, here it is (this is a link to Vimeo, as the preview was removed from YouTube last month for having TOO MUCH sexual content and nudity). Be warned: it is VERY graphic.
