Has 2012 Been a Good Year for Movies?
2012 is drawing to a close, which means it's that time when every online publication starts doing their retrospectives and looking back at the Year That Was. Let it be said that F This Movie! was first...ish.

Unsung!: Permanent Record
Why is it when a film goes about its business in an earnest, straightforward way without hype, stylistic flourishes, or an overdose of auteurism, critics brand it “the stuff of made-for-TV movies?”

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Nov. 23)
Happy Turkey Day (an expression I hate), F-Heads! Because no one's at work/on their computer today, let's keep this light. Here are three (because I'm lazy, but remember when only three was the norm?) trailerz for Thanksgiving-themed (using that statement loosely) movies. Check out last year's nostalgic previews here.

Unsung!: Get Crazy
I first saw this on campus when I was in college (I know what you are probably saying, especially those who read the column every week, “This illiterate gorilla went to college?” First of all, there is no reason to get verbally abusive. Second, thanks to well-placed bribes in just the right amounts, I did not merely GO to college, I GRADJIATED!). The distributor must have thought college kids would dig Get Crazy’s mix of anarchic comedy and rock and roll music.
This college kid dug it the most.

It Came from the '80s: Legend
Fantasy was so acceptable -- nay, DESIRABLE -- as a mainstream movie genre in the '80s that even A-lister Ridley Scott signed on to direct a fantasy film with a real movie star, the backing of a major studio and a big budget at his disposal. Scott, perhaps sensing that he had created two of the definitive sci-fi films of the 20th century (Alien and Blade Runner, like you didn't already know), set out to make not just a fantasy film but THE fantasy film -- the one by which all other fantasy films would be measured. He did not succeed.

Sh!#ting on the Classics: Casino Royale
All this talk of James Bond this week has me so excited. Have you listened to the Skyfall podcast yet? No? Go do that now.
Our last Weekend Weigh-In asked for your favorite and least favorite Bond films. I was surprised that Casino Royale is one of our listeners’ favorite James Bond films. Because Casino Royale stinks! It stinks on ice.
Then I realized: all of you must mean the OTHER Casino Royale.

Weekend Weigh-in: What Movies are You Still Looking Forward to Most in 2012?
There's still two months left in 2012, and we're already in "awards season" (not that you would know it) and heading into the holiday movie season. What are you most excited about seeing in the final weeks of the year?

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Nov. 2)
It's been several weeks since we've featured new trailerz here at F This Movie! Blame the #ScaryMovieMonth beast, and its insatiable appetite for whimsical, horror-themed content. But it's November now! October 2012 is DEAD and BURIED! Forever! We trudge on. Rather than feature, like, a MILLION new previews (the world didn't stop turning just because all of us were knee-deep in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise), I'm just going to feature some the bigger movies this week. Then some medium-sized movies next week. Then all the other shit the week after next. THERE'S A METHOD TO MY MADNESS. Before you know it, we'll be all caught up!

My Favorite Bond: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Scary Movie Month is over, and it was a HUGE, BLOODY SUCCESS thanks to all of you. But I don't think I'm alone when I say that it will feel good to move and go back to watching all kinds of movies -- if by "all kinds of movies," you guys are also thinking "a lot of James Bond movies." To celebrate the release of Skyfall, we're going to be publishing a series of pieces this month looking back at some our writers' favorite entries in the 50-year old Bond franchise. And I'm up first.
