Here are 10 filmmakers whose work is great, but who (for one reason

Riske Business: The 10 Best Chanukah Movies of All time
Why hasn’t Hollywood (and independent cinema for that matter) ever made much in the way of Chanukah movies? The only seasonal movies I and my fellow Jewish moviegoers have are grief porn like An American Tail or Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights, which is too mean-spirited to also be silly. So to help stoke the fire, I am proposing 10 Chanukah movies for Hollywood to produce. They will all be better than An American Tail or Eight Crazy Nights and thus are the 10 best Chanukah movies ever made.

Riske Business: Box Office Bombs I Thought Would Be Huge
As mentioned way back on the Young Guns podcast, Premiere Magazine once predicted that the Julia Roberts sob-fest Dying Young would be the biggest movie of the summer of 1991. That did not turn out to be the case. Eighteen movies grossed more than Dying Young that summer. I’d make fun of the writers at Premiere, but that wouldn’t be fair. I’ve had many occasions where I thought a movie would be huge and it did not catch on. Here are some of my Dying Youngs.

Drunk on Foolish Pleasures: A Return to the Land of Packaging!
Two years ago I wrote about the bane of home video collectors: irregular disc packaging that does not line up on the shelf with standard keep cases. Well kids, I now have several possible solutions…

Riske Business: Blockbusters, Oscar Bait and Expectations
I’m at a bit of a divide when it comes to movies these days. I have come to the realization that I am no longer the target audience for the big blockbuster movies anymore. Ender’s Game, Thor: The Dark World and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are made for 20-somethings, teens or younger. And the “Oscar bait” movies of the day often disappoint me as well. I’m not going to give up watching blockbusters or the movies jockeying for awards. That would be a dumb solution. I might dismiss something and end up missing the next pleasant surprise. So what should I do? I think it all has to do with expectations. And I need to adjust mine.

Review: Ender's Game (Adam Riske's Take)
by Adam Riske
I love being wrong. Having no history with the book Ender’s Game, I went into the movie with a blank slate and low expectations brought on by the movie’s garbage trailer. It looked like another one of those nonsense “chosen one” movies for kids. But I am here to say Ender’s Game is another Jack Reacher, a movie far better than the ads would leave you to believe. I liked Ender’s Game. At times I liked it a lot.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Nov. 1)
Do you know how weird it is to write about non-horror previews on Halloween? DO YOU? "Pretty weird," -your mouth hole. Alas, #ScaryMovieMonth 2013 has shuffled off this mortal coil. While it was "tons of fun" (Patrick's high school nickname), it's over Johnny. IT'S OVER. Listen, we're all adults with adult-sized brains so we're fully capable of moving on, right? I mean, November has stuff to offer too, like Daylight Saving Time and Albanian Independence Day and Cyber Monday ... OK, now I'm bummed. Here's some fucking trailerz. ENJOY.
