Movies I Love: Django Unchained
There wasn't a movie I was more excited about in 2012 than Django Unchained, the seventh film from Quentin Tarantino. I saw it. I loved it. It took the number two slot on the list of my favorite movies of the year. But that was on a single viewing, and I knew I wanted -- nay, needed -- to see it again.
Now I've watched it twice in a week, and I love it even more.

Heath Holland On...The Kurt Russell/Elvis Connection
by Heath Holland
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my new appreciation for Elvis Presley and his movies; a few weeks before that, I wrote about how I missed the movie stars that I grew up watching. This week I’ve discovered a cool connection between one of my favorite movie stars and my newfound love of Elvis: the Kurt Russell/Elvis Connection!

Unsung!: Sorcerer
Thirty-seven years ago I saw William Friedkin’s Sorcerer and it knocked my little socks off. I thought it was one of the best films I had ever seen. Critical opinion at the time held that Sorcerer was a stinkeroo. Then the film disappeared. Last Sunday I had a chance to see Sorcerer again. Who would prove right in their original critical judgment: most of the world’s film critics or the fourteen-year-old me?
Fasten your seat belts, dear readers, Sorcerer DEFINES “unsung!”

Review: The Lords of Salem
by Patrick Bromley
Rob Zombie's latest, The Lords of Salem, is a very effective movie. I'm still not positive it's a "good" movie in the conventional sense, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that it works. It does.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (April 19)
I usually don't feature second and third (and "international") trailerz for movies I've already showcased (because C'MON), but, given how Man of Steel looks to be the biggest event movie this summer, I'll make an exception (you're welcome). Here you go (bet you didn't know I had all these completely arbitrary, made-up rules for myself when it comes to collecting/distributing previews to the F This Movie! family, did you?). Also, awesome trailer! It actually makes me excited for yet another superhero movie, when I honestly thought I was completely burned out. Well done, Zackk Shneidurrrr!

Well, here it is. I Declare War is the best movie I saw at the Chicago Critics Film Festival and one of my favorite movies of the year.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane - Chicago Critics Film Festival Review
by Patrick Bromley
Since 2006, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane has been one of the Holy Grails of horror movies -- championed by many, but impossible to see. Thanks to the Chicago Critics Film Festival, I can finally check it off the list. Was it worth the wait?

Heath Holland On...Superman, George Reeves and Hollywoodland
Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound…look, up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…Ben Affleck!

The Dirties - Chicago Critics Film Festival Review
When the opening title card for The Dirties first appeared on screen saying something to the effect of "Out of respect for the families, none of the following footage has been altered," my heart sank. Fuck. Another found footage movie.
Boy, was I wrong.

Riske Business: Spoiler Alert!
Note: We have a special guest this week on Riske Business – Doug’s long lost uncle, Dr. King Schultz! He’s rode a whole lot of miles at my request to speak to us about spoilers. Let’s make him feel welcome.
The Kings of Summer - Chicago Critics Film Festival Review
If the kids from Stand by Me accidentally wandered into a movie co-directed by Wes Anderson and Terrence Malick, it would be The Kings of Summer.

Unsung!: Rescue Dawn
For the longest time, I thought I was the only person on the planet who ever saw this film. Recently, I determined that I am SURE I am the only person on the planet who has ever seen this film. Well, me and Werner Herzog.

Review: Trance
by Adam Riske
Rosario Dawson's vagina is the first thing people will remember about Trance. That's the bed the movie has made. It is a movie that you’d be just fine watching, yet lose nothing by skipping. The good news is that it’s original.

Riske Business: Room 237 and The Shining
I am a big admirer of The Shining. While I am watching it, I am often convinced it is the greatest horror movie ever made. This past weekend, I re-watched The Shining to coincide with the release of a new documentary claiming to be 'An Inquiry Into The Shining in 9 Parts,' called Room 237. I had seen Room 237 already at the Chicago International Film Festival, and something just bothered me about it. I couldn’t figure out what. I knew I would give Room 237 another chance when it was officially released. In my re-watching of both movies, I liked The Shining more than I ever have and I’m ready to call Room 237 one of the worst movies I’ve seen so far this year. It’s a completely dishonest movie.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (April 5)
Thanks for everyone's kind words and well wishes! Mom and baby (and Doug) are doing great! But just remember: it's a marathon, and, you know, you GOTTA sleep when the baby sleeps. Listen, LISTEN -- I would take a bullet for her. Because life is precious. And God, and the Bible. But enough about me and my FAMILY OF THREE ... trailerz wait for no baby! Except for last week! Sorry about that!

10 Songs Made Better By Movies
by Patrick Bromley
In the same way that music can make movies better -- just ask Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, etc. -- movies can make songs better. That's not a surprise. Movies make EVERYTHING better!

Riske Business: G.I. Joe: Retaliation in a D-Box MFX Seat
I’ve wanted to write a column about D-Box MFX seats since I sat in one during a screening of Dredd last fall. I thought the experience was odd. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. It definitely was not worth the upcharge (about the same as the price for an IMAX ticket) but it was INTERESTING and worth doing once. I could only remember generalizations from my viewing of Dredd so, before commenting on it, I wanted to wait for that perfect movie for my next D-Box MFX excursion. That movie was G.I. Joe: Retaliation -- something fun, visceral and disposable. At least I hoped it would be.
