In lieu of a specific topic this week, we're opening the WWi to all of you to ask, discuss or vent about anything you want. Probably movie-related, of course.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (August 30)
By now, we've all heard that Benjamin Geza Affleck has been cast as the new Batman (in a crazy 13-movie deal?). Here's a fan-made trailer for the upcoming (2015!) Batman vs. Superman film, which the whole internet is going [wait for it] batshit crazy over. I am less impressed. What do you think?

10 Teen Movies That Are Better Than You Think
by Patrick Bromley
Sure, we all love Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club. But where is the love for these teen movies?

Riske Business: Going Back to the Video Store for 30 Days
Like most of my friends and colleagues in the F This Movie! community, I’m prone to bouts of nostalgia when it comes to the way I used to watch movies. It’s hard not to romanticize experiences from the past because you came to them with a lot less baggage as a young person. I would also venture to guess that people like me, who are nostalgic, don’t like change very much. With nostalgia very much in mind, I tried an experiment over the last 30 days: I only rented movies from Family Video (AMERICA!), a local video store chain that acts as the last man standing in the brick and mortar home video market around where I live. No Redbox, YouTube, Netflix or Video On Demand. Was going back a video store a magical trip down memory lane?

Weekend Weigh-in: What is Your Favorite Actor/Director Pairing?
The only thing better than a movie with people you like is a movie with people you like working together.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Aug. 23)
This week, Bad Robot Productions released a mysterious trailer for something called Stranger. Take a look, won't you? Is it a movie? A video game? An Albert Camus "Choose Your Own Adventure"? All of the above? I DON'T KNOW STOP HOUNDING ME! Listen, J.J. Abrams is a master at viral marketing (see Cloverfield), and a decent technical director (although I'm still waiting for him to direct a truly well-written project, because fuck you Damon Lindelof). But my patience is wearing thin for these slick, yet ultimately hollow, teasers. The "Isn't this cool?" vibe that his camp perfected in the mid-2000s as we anticipated new episodes of Lost now only serves to infuriate me. But I'm a bitter old man, and Lost is almost a decade old. Now isn't THAT something.
Netflix This Movie! Vol. 39
You should be at the movie theater this weekend. There's finally good stuff out. While you're waiting for your movie to start, stream one of these.

Riske Business: The Summer Movie Stock Market
Who had a good summer at the movies? Who hit the skids? What trends are on the rise? Which are sucking wind? I sat down with Jaden Smith and, using multidimensional mathematics, we found the special equation to get our summer movie answers. It was tough. We had to develop a whole new set of mathematics to get to these equations because our mathematics hasn’t evolved enough yet. Anyways, it was a really fun sleepover party. Brody Jenner was there. Bai Ling. Cash bar! Patterns, boom.

Heath Holland On...Finding John Wayne Through The Searchers
One Blu-ray player: $75. One copy of The Searchers on lu-ray: $7.99. Finding out you were wrong about John Wayne: priceless.
Review: The Spectacular Now
by Adam Riske
The Spectacular Now is a challenging movie and one you should seek out. I’ve been trying to reconcile my feelings about it for a while. It’s centered on one of the most frustrating lead characters I can remember seeing in a movie. The movie wisely presents him as is and lets you decide. I’ve seen the movie twice and I still can’t.

Mark Ahn Knows Kung-fu: The Legend of Fong Sai-yuk
The onslaught of stubbornly grim doom from this summer’s movies aside, most of us are still open to enjoying the pleasures of a tall tale, well told.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Aug. 16)
Kind of a down week for trailerz. I know -- I'm just as surprised as you! Because trailerz are the best! Who has two thumbs and loves trailerz? Hint: THIS GUY (my thumbs are pointing to my chest).
Trailerz: it's what's for dinner!
Netflix This Movie! Vol. 38

Review: Elysium (Alex's Take)
I’m glad movies like Elysium exist. In a lot of ways, writer-director Neill Blomkamp’s second feature crystallizes a concept that is at once plainly obvious and yet always in need of more analytical thought: Making a good movie is god damn hard, man.
Riske Business: The Hall of Kick-Ass Vol. 3
Aw, yeah! Part III. The one where we start jumping the shark, just like The Godfather, Scream and

Riske Business: Music & the Movies with Special Guest Mark Ahn
In the best collaboration since Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan in Proof of Life, Mark and I sat down to discuss our thoughts on music and movies. You could say Mark is even Taken by the topic. I’m Taken, 2.
Review: Passion
by Patrick Bromley
Passion is a movie only a Brian De Palma apologist could love. I am a Brian De Palma apologist. So why don't I love it?

I'll Watch Anything!: JB Watches Song of the South
Funny story: Adam Riske and I attended the recent G-Fest in Rosemont, Illinois. Stepping up to one of the ubiquitous bootleg DVD dealer tables, Adam picked up a copy of Disney’s Song of the South, savored its questionable legality, and whispered, “I am going to buy this for you because I want to read what you have to say about it.”
Here you go, Adam.

Like You Were There: Adam Riske at the Edgar Wright Double Feature
On Friday, August 2nd, Mike Pomaro and I went to see a double feature of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz at the glorious Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Edgar Wright was in attendance to introduce the movies and he brought Simon Pegg and Nick Frost along for an extremely funny Q&A. Care to relive the evening with us?

It Came from the '80s: Conan the Destroyer
by Patrick Bromley
Conan the Destroyer is the Conan movie for kids. Somehow it still has fountains of blood, graphic beheadings, inappropriate sexuality and Arnold Schwarzenegger's hammiest acting this side of Mr. Freeze. Ah, the '80s.
