Drunk On Foolish Pleasures: Double Feature!
by JB
Sometimes I think my students do not possess a strong critical faculty because they simply have not seen enough films. How can one tell diamonds from rocks if one sees nothing but rocks? Let’s look at two typical B-movies, one from 1958 and one from 1959, to illustrate this concept.

Drunk on Foolish Pleasures: Really Universal Horrors!
by JB
This past weekend I went to Universal Studios Hollywood – the first time I’ve visited during Scary Movie Month. It got me to some excessive ruminating.

Riske Business: 10 Underrated Horror Movies
by Adam Riske
Last week’s overrated column was an epic backfire (you weren’t here to fish). Yet, it got the most comments ever for a Riske Business. I challenge all of us to break that record with positive feedback about underrated horror movies.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Oct. 18)
The sun is shining. Leaves are changing colors. It's #ScaryMovieMonth, goshdarnit! LIFE IS GOOD. That being said, let's look at trailerz for some of the most depressing horror films out there (*Note: most of these movies are quite good and/or I find them enjoyable; it might just be their endings that are soul-crushing). Quite a twist, eh? Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Great Horror Performances: Matthew Lillard in Scream
by Adam Riske
I re-watched Wes Craven’s Scream last weekend and was surprised how well it has held up. I used to love it back when I was a teenager. I think I like it even more as an adult. As I watched the scene with Jamie Kennedy and Matthew Lillard in the video store, it suddenly occurred to me how GREAT Matthew Lillard’s performance is in Scream. I was somewhat taken aback. The guy from Serial Mom, Hackers, Scooby-Doo and Without a Paddle was giving a terrific performance? What’s going on here?

Great Horror Performances: Anthony Perkins in Psycho

Anthony Perkins’ portrayal of Norman Bates was so unique, superb, and ground breaking that he could never play anyone else for the rest of his life.

Riske Business: Why You Should Watch Carnival of Souls This Month
by Adam Riske
Have you ever been at a “fun” bar or social gathering that makes you so uncomfortable that you feel like you need to desperately escape? This is a feeling of horror unto itself. The movie that best captures it, to me, is Herk Harvey’s 1962 classic Carnival of Souls.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Oct. 4)
For my first installment of #ScaryMovieMonth horror trailerz, let's talk EVIL VEHICLES. Wait, are you suggesting that I found the green goblin truck face graphic from Maximum Overdrive first, and then worked backwards into this idea? Is THAT what you're suggesting? Well, are you? ANSWER ME!

Like You Were There: Adam Riske at Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3-D!
On Saturday, September 28th, I went to a screening of Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3-D with star Julie Adams in person at the beautiful Patio Theatre in Chicago. Julie Adams signed autographs and posed for pictures prior to the feature, which was followed by a Q&A. Care to relive the afternoon with me?
