Heath Holland On...The Tall T

Howdy, friend! Sit for a spell, then saddle up with Budd Boetticher and Randolph Scott for the second film in the acclaimed Ranown Cycle.

The Overlook: The Hole in 3-D!
by JB
I cannot for the life of me understand why a Joe Dante horror film in 3-D would not merit a wide release.

Heath Holland On...Legacy
by Heath Holland
This week I’m going to keep it short—no, really, I promise. All I’ve got for you this time is a few Jim-Gaffigan-style observations about “legacy” as it pertains to movies. Well, I’ve also got a five-minute routine on prostate exams in case I ever find myself on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but I’m saving that for NBC.

I have seen hundreds of films noir, but this is the first one that put a rollercoaster in my lap!

Review: Trainwreck
by Patrick Bromley
You know that movie that's being marketed as "outrageous female comedian likes to party, directed by Judd Apatow?" Turns out it's one of the best romantic comedies of recent years.

8-Bit World
by Melissa Uhrin
I belong to an elite group, with an entire “secret language” at our disposal, whom many find to be alien gibberish. No no, it's not Klingon, although I do love me some Star Trek TNG! The secret language to which I refer can most famously be summed up as this: UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, START, SELECT. Elite group = NERDS.

Would I like to see Ann Miller dance in my living room and throw pink scarves in my face?
Yes, please.

24 Hours of Movies: Bad Technology!

Ahn Demand: Barry Lyndon / Serpico
by Mark Ahn and Adam Riske
For this installment, Adam Riske and I decided to delve into some excellent movies from the '70s. Adam watched Barry Lyndon (1975) off of my unwatched list, and I saw Serpico (1973) for him. We felt like more people need to talk about how good these movies are.

Heath Holland On...Dark Passage
by Heath Holland
As I slowly but surely make my way through Humphrey Bogart’s body of work, some movies stand out for different reasons. Bogie is associated with a ton of classic films, and even people who haven’t seen his most famous movies still likely recognize titles like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Any film fan would be hard-pressed to hear those names without instantly having Bogart’s careworn face spring to mind.

The Overlook: 3D Rarities

Flicker Alley’s new Blu-ray disc is a mixed bag of delights, and by “delights” I mean “things that are trying to escape the bag and poke you in the eyes.”

Riske Business: Franchises I Would Like to See Revived
by Adam Riske
We’re usually dubious about sequels and reboots. However, here are 10 I think could still work.

Magic Mike XXL is what you thought the first Magic Mike would be. That's not such a bad thing.

Review: Terminator Genisys
by Patrick Bromley
Terminator Genisys, the latest entry in the 30+ year Terminator franchise, is further proof of the series' diminishing returns. That's bad news for any movie that follows Terminator Salvation.
